Had any BJ’s recently?

I find myself craving a superburger and fries now and then… Can I have a chocolate shake with that. I know,  I’m well aware that it’s probably a heart attack in a wrapper, but once in a while isn’t going to hurt anyone and I’m not in Lamar very often. So… anytime I go back there, I stop in for a BJ’s Super Burger (yes, put everything on it) and fries, with a chocolate milk shake. YUM. Hometown goodness in a foil wrapper. Well worth the drive and more than worth the money – don’t tell Roxie, but one day a week at least, it’s cheaper than Burger King! Gotta love it.

City Administrator Issues Plague Lamar

City Council faces choices with the City Administrator position once again as Bill Pfeilsticker resigns abruptly. More here… Council members held an executive session that afternoon to interview several candidates for an interim city administrator, following the abrupt resignation and departure of Bill Pfeilsticker. The interim administrator will hold that position until the council has advertised for, and selected a permanent replacement from a list of candidates. The council will be asked to ratify a phone poll to hire Steve Rabe as interim administrator. Southeastern Colorado community has experienced more than a fair share of difficulties over the past several years on the administrative side of business… Suggestions from many local folks recommended that local people be hired into these positions, using local talent, because their love of community and dedication to service matters. Can we hope that local residents will apply for the job and be considered for the position of City Administrator? What could be better than having a local, Lamar loving person in this position? Step up Lamar, this is your opportunity. Sponsored by:

Mrs. Munro Recognized by Students

If you’re a member of the group You Know You’re from Lamar on Facebook, you’re already aware that Mrs. Munro was recognized by former students with Valentines this holiday, most likely including a selection of notes, essays and short remembrances, all checked for grammar and punctuation errors. For a lifetime, Mrs. Munro taught at Lamar High School, bringing English to the masses who studied there. Her expertise in literature and language arts is renowned by alumni, often remembered for her strict requirements and classroom demands, but more often thought of as an inspiration by those who survived her course studies with better than average grades… Which included most of her students, because she went the extra distance required to make certain they not only passed, but excelled in her classes. One former student went a little bit further. She wrote about Mrs. Munro in her Column in The Flume – an excerpt below: She was the gold standard of English teachers and a force of nature in the classroom. We were spellbound by her readings of “Beowulf” in Old English and her step-by-step instructions for steaming a pudding inside a sheep’s stomach (previously separated from sheep, of course). Simultaneously, however, read more…
