ARPA Power Plant Under Lawsuit

Trinidad, CO seeks relief from continued Power Plant mismanagement. Continued failure on a number of issues has the City Council in Trinidad taking action to find relief from participation in the power plant costs and distribution of power. They’ve joined hands with Raton, NM to find an alternate source of power. This according to Gil de Rubio, City Administrator of Trinidad. Is the City of Lamar stuck with this White Elephant? Citizens of Lamar have asked for answers on numerous visits with people from ARPA, and short of picking up the tab for continued blunders and breakdowns, have similar complaints to Trinidad and Raton. Plus the additional complaint of being forced to live with the noise, lights and danger of the power plant being located right inside of the community.

Tribute to the Local (LAMAR) Buzz

Violet Lane accomplished what some would call impossible, managing “another” paper in a community of 8,000 picky, unappreciative people. Who knew – when she started her paper – that so many events would appear in the news, worthy of being reported, recorded and renowned with historical review? Back in those early days when I started blogging about Lamar, I believed the people of Lamar would appreciate having an alternate news source, of any kind. We all complained, even me. I didn’t like a few things she did, and she felt she was right. Battle of the wills resulted in an agreement to disagree. No problem there, it’s a free country and we have a right to our own opinion – AND our own voice. As much as I disagreed with her about publishing a newspaper for local folks in SPANISH, I admired her for standing up for her right to do as she pleased. I’m still a firm believer that residents of the US should learn to read more…

Turncoat to LUB Reality – What will it cost?

After my phone ringing off the hook for the past month, I decided to look at the paper and see if I could figure out why everyone is calling me. There’s a new petition out, to shut down the power plant. That seems to be the reason they’re calling me, but there had to be more… What’s up with LUB that has their dander up again? I’d noticed the shift in policy of what was being tossed in the local landfill. That should make those on the road to the landfill happier, if not complacent… But I doubt it settled much dust in that area. I noticed raises in fees for surrounding communities because of transport costs. That should calm the fears of those who complain about rate hikes to transport power to outlying areas… But I doubt the prices are dropping any. I noticed more stories about Rick Rigel in the local paper, telling about his consultation with Leon Sparks, a trusted member of the community. That should actually calm the fireworks over the construction of a coal plant in Lamar… But I don’t see a calm coming anytime soon. The storm keeps building and the people of Lamar read more…
