Dog Catcher Now City Code Inspector?
There’s an interesting twist of indigestion for you… The dog catcher who can’t seem to keep unleashed dogs off the street now has the position of City Code Inspector? A couple years back, Lamar, Colorado brought in a new City Administrator from Florida, who brought a few tag-alongs from his hometown area… First he brought in a Florida grown Police Chief, who proceeded to get rid of every local officer on the force, then hired youthful, newly trained officers straight out of the academy… Then he brought along his former assistant city administrator (that is after he got rid of local resident City Attorney Darla Scranton), as the Lamar Assistant City Administrator… The result of these administrative changes is a Dog Catcher performing as an Enforcement Officer. I’m not sure what the City of Lamar has done with former City Code Inspector, Bobby Ward, and his assistant, side kick, Cheryl Newman, but today’s tickets came by way of the former Dog Catcher, now labeled, Enforcement Officer. Urban Uproar Over Renewal – Lamar, Colorado
A blight on the prairies of Colorado may be more than the coal plant and the rocky inhabitants of a field north of the silos meant to store the coal. Whether you’re a merchant in the proposed Urban Redevelopment District or a citizen of Prowers County just aching to have your say, the door is open. One attendee proudly stated that she owned a successful business that had moved out of the Lamar high traffic zone, escaping by a narrow margin the home rule design of Lamar’s City Government. Still located in Prowers County her business is alive and well, but not downtown. Another attendee commented on the difficulties of being limited by Lamar City rules although they live outside of town, because their business is located on Main Street, Urban Renewal, USA. The city’s tired attempt to buy them out, in their opinions, is a prelude to Urban Renewal take over by imminent domain. A local real estate agent closed the meeting with a round up of concerns, bottom line, re-election of officers is this November.
