“Anything Goes” (but don’t talk about killing prairie dogs)
Tree hugging greenies who choose to protect the rights of animals (even those that danger other animals) have taken out residence in Lamar. It seems our own Ty Harmon had a visit from the local Sheriff’s office based on his comments about shooting the little rascals on the popular local radio show “Anything Goes”. Of course, since they’re not supposed to talk about killing prairie dogs on the air, half a show was dedicated to the topic. (It seems you just can’t stop a country boy from talking about a topic, no matter who you get involved.) So, what’s the big deal? Pritchett America offers up a collection of prairie dogs to present Ty on his portion of the show. Ranchers around the area know the damage a herd of prairie dogs can cause to a herd of cattle wondering around the prairie in the winter. A prairie dog may be able to locate his hole under the snow, but a man on horseback, or a cow blinded in a blizzard may be doomed to die because of a broken leg, in a prairie dog hole he doesn’t see. There’s probably some turn around flack about me asking this question read more…
Credibility Issues – Local Leaders and Media
Late last week, I revealed a local paper’s “Letter’s to the Editor” with fictitious information on a bill being run past the Congress currently. That issue became bigger than life this morning on KLMR’s Radio Station “Anything Goes” show. As a citizen of the community, I’ve always listened to Anything Goes and taken the information with a grain of salt, because the producers comment that they haven’t necessarily checked it out, and the opinions expressed there are not necessarily the opinions of the show host or owners of the station. Se la Vi. No issue taken there, nor was any intended. The issue at hand, includes a local Sheriff, Jim Faull, commenting on an email he received from an unknown source, recognizing a bill “Handgun Safety Bill of 2000″ as being somehow resurrected in 2009. Nope, not true. This bill, according to Snopes is false. According to Urban Ledgeds, the bill died in the committee of finance in 2000 and has been circulating under various titles ever since. According to Fact Check, this bill is an annual event on email forwarding and has seen better days, but is still non-existent. Personally, I didn’t want to assume the Sheriff didn’t know read more…

Voces Unidas – Rene Gonzalez & KLMR Radio
It’s probably just the mood of the day – the sun’s out full bore shining in the eastern window and there’s a breeze in the air. All night long I’d been wanting to listen to “Anything Goes” and unfortunately KLMR doesn’t reach this far. Streaming online isn’t available for most of the Radio show, so there it is. I’m feeling a little homesick for my favorite part of my home town (beyond my family – of course) and along with morning comes an email from Rene Gonzalez. He’s chattering on about the ads for Voces Unidas and Cinco DeMayo, so I decide to drop him a line and offer to post his ads on the LamarCo.US/Blog and here we are… I need an article to include his ads in. I’ve been away from home for so long I can’t think of anything to write about – and checking the LamarLedger would be cheating (if there’s even anything in the paper). So, I go scan facebook for information from home and find out that our former School Nurse, Mrs. Celia Kennedy has a fractured foot and is staying with Kathy for a while. It makes me feel sad because I know read more…
