Tree hugging greenies who choose to protect the rights of animals (even those that danger other animals) have taken out residence in Lamar. It seems our own Ty Harmon had a visit from the local Sheriff’s office based on his comments about shooting the little rascals on the popular local radio show “Anything Goes”.
Of course, since they’re not supposed to talk about killing prairie dogs on the air, half a show was dedicated to the topic. (It seems you just can’t stop a country boy from talking about a topic, no matter who you get involved.) So, what’s the big deal?
Pritchett America offers up a collection of prairie dogs to present Ty on his portion of the show. Ranchers around the area know the damage a herd of prairie dogs can cause to a herd of cattle wondering around the prairie in the winter. A prairie dog may be able to locate his hole under the snow, but a man on horseback, or a cow blinded in a blizzard may be doomed to die because of a broken leg, in a prairie dog hole he doesn’t see.
There’s probably some turn around flack about me asking this question here, as much as on the radio, but seriously… What’s the big deal of killing a few prairie dogs to protect a herd of cattle?
I’m fully aware of the latest Czar in Washington and his efforts to save cattle from the dire straights of becoming steak on the dinner table. He’s a vegan and thinks everyone else should be too. My Bible says differently, but it’s a matter of personal choice… At least, until the vegan liberals get a hold of the concept and drive it into law, making animals more valuable than human life.
I can see the traffic jams now. Driving down the highway (US 50 east of Pueblo) and a little rodent runs across the highway. Not only can you not call it in on your cell phone (they’re banned while driving too), but you can’t run over the rodent. Swerving like a mad woman to protect the 12 inch long plague carrying creature, you rear-end a vegan with an attitude about protecting the wildlife from mean, hairspray wielding drivers over 50 who should be killed by the death board for lack of “life value”. Not only is the traffic tie up outrageous, but the reality of these animal rights activists have gone way too far.
Left wing liberals cry out over the killing of animals and yet claim it’s a woman’s right to abort her child? Isn’t there a sense of hypocrisy in those arguments?
Along the road to limiting the freedom of speech, this hard on topic of not talking about the “senseless killing of prairie dogs” seems to be an attempt to change a lifestyle. Farmers and ranchers have been killing off prairie dogs to stop the development of larger prairie dog villages across the prairie since the early 1800′s (if not before). And the little scoundrels are still multiplying like… er… prairie dogs.
Perhaps, before we go to the extremes of stopping the Freedom of Speech on local radio, perhaps we need a large spoonful of logic, when we start adding new topics that are “off the free speech rector scale” and making public radio Politically Correct. Or is everyone really so intent on correcting others that they can’t see beyond their own hypocrisy?
PS. You’re welcome to comment here about saving the animals and animal rights. I’ll print your posts, so long as they’re not overrun with odd links and spam.
