Cal Ripken 10 year old World Series 2009 began Thursday in Lamar, Colorado. With Mayor Nelva Heath kicking off the tournaments with her own rendition of the National Anthem, the games began.
Banquets, Games and Tournament Awards, kick off the recognition portion of the Cal Ripken World Series 2009 with a new concern.
When the City of Lamar brough the World Series into Lamar, the hope was for money spent at the World Series to be spent in Lamar, and yet…
Photographers for the World Series were brought in from out of town. While most of the work on the project, developing the World Series Four Plex was done by local contractors, the concern for local businesses seems to have stopped there… Although, attendees shop local stores, many of the contractors brought in to service the World Series seem to have come from out of town.
What’s up with that? And who says local photographers and business entities can’t take pictures of events? What’s with that concept? Why can’t local photographers take pictures, movies or in any other way can’t commemorate the events of this World Class Happening in our small town?

1I didn’t know anything like that was happening. I did hear that the new hotel in lamar (which isn’t open) rebooked reservations they took to the one in LaJunta. I thought that was pretty crappy, but then again that hotel isn’t locally owned so they don’t have any loyalty to Lamar just their pocketbook.
