Lamar Police Department Suspicious

According to the number of complaints coming from Lamar over the past couple of years, it would appear the Lamar Police Department has too much time on their hands…

Pulling law abiding citizens over for suspicious activity – as they drive home from work, late at night? Following citizens home after a long day? Late night contacts with law abiding citizens who have done nothing wrong… other than perhaps finished their job and headed home for a night of rest.

When my mother complained a few years ago about being followed home late at night, I contacted the police department and asked if there was a reason for following her home. She felt threatened by the police officers, constantly following her, especially after one ticketed her for not stopping at a stop sign (where she specifically remembered stopping). Middle of the night stops, when no traffic is on the road seem less than beneficial, when no crime has been committed. Harassment? Perhaps?

The police department indicated they were just serving the community by making sure she got home safely, she was an old lady by then. So they said… Those same officers wouldn’t drive to her home when she called them a few weeks earlier because a pack of dogs were circling her vehicle and wouldn’t let her go inside at 2 am. She waited, finally, too cold to continue sitting in the car, called me (200 miles away) and I called someone to go help her into the house. The police department got a call from me THAT night too.

On the back side of the police car, a sign used to say “to protect and to serve”. When it is still there (seldom these days), the meaning is not the same. There’s no service in the police department, and if you’re wondering, they’re no longer there to protect local citizens. Their job these days is more described by harassment, predator,  or public nuisance — if you’re a law abiding citizen that is.

No longer do the police search out and find those who threaten and bully, beat or malign good law abiding citizens, those criminals are left to their activities. Law abiding, hard working, tax paying citizens on the other hand are harassed, pulled over for “suspicious” activity and behavior, or followed.

Perhaps there are a few too many officers on call? Or maybe they just need to refocus their actions on stopping criminal activities and reducing ACTUAL crime activities in the area instead of pulling over young women (or even older women) on their way home from work, late at night.

In case they’ve forgotten… There is still an outstanding case where a minor was beaten up by two illegal immigrants, unsolved, the men still on the loose. There’s a job they COULD be doing!

Perhaps you are fighting a war that isn’t there. Let us see….you don’t like code enforcement or the police department and the list seems to go on and on. You don’t live here anymore so why don’t you clean up and clean house where you live now!
