Reed receives October 2011 BEST Selling Author AWARD
Former Lamar, Colorado based organization with more than 2300 members and growing strong, announces local author Oris Reed as the October 2011 Best Selling Author for his book, “Along the Back Roads of Yesterday” under his pseudonym, Oris George. Reed a long time resident of southeastern Colorado has sponsored numerous book signings in Lamar, Colorado and surrounding area. A member of the organization for more than five years, Reed occasionally offers guest posts on the organizations website and participates in forum critiquing sessions. Reed promotes his book by offering up writer tips, suggestions and ideas that help other writers to promote their books. His efforts don’t go unnoticed as authors and readers from all over the globe have caught wind of his recent publication “Along the Back Roads of Yesterday” and requested that it be a featured book on the ACE Writers Spotlight. Oris Reed’s book is featured on the ACE Writer Spotlight. The stories in his book feature personal essays of his life lived in the 1940′s and 50′s as a small boy getting into mischief and reminding the world that small boys do grow up. Teague Bohlen Visits Lamar, Colorado
Teague Bohlen Speaks at Lamar Public Library by: Danielle Simone Teague Bohlen, author of The Pull of the Earth, spoke at Lamar Public Library Wednesday, October 26th. His first presentation from 10 to 2 PM dealt with writing techniques, similar to what he teaches his students at the University of Colorado, Denver campus as Assistant Professor of Creative Writing. During his evening visit, he read the first chapter from his book and answered questions. One of his topics included a general method for putting together a book. ? -Outline, chronologically ? -List a chapter breakdown ? -Create detailed character profiles of about 3 to 5 pages including primary and secondary characters ? -Create short scenes as they come to you without regard for the narrative order His audience participated in several writing exercises including practice with defining characters, putting them in place and dealing with conflict. Mr. Bohlen also had the audience write a family story and then trade it to the person in the next seat. This exercise brought out the difficulty a writer can experience with characterization when he or she is emotionally connected to the characters.
