Power Plant Upheaval & Confusion
Beating a different drum… The power plant issue has come full circle, from a multi-million dollar deal to build a power plant in Lamar, to the destruction of a home owned power plant. Where’s the logic? Constant function has something to do with the process of building a power source that is constant, without fluctuation, providing consistent level power that meets the needs of local citizens. The power grid indicates a bigger source of power interactive throughout a section of the country, making the most of the power sources, by interactive association. Circular networks provide consistent power and energy flow. *************ADVERTIZEMENT************* Piano Lessons – Reasonably priced, scheduled to meet your needs. Contact information and more at PIANO LESSONS ******************************************** Wind generated power isn’t consistent, because the wind doesn’t always blow at the same rate of speed. Water generated power isn’t always consistent either, there are high tides and low tides, ebs and flows of speed, and no, water doesn’t always run downhill at the same speed. So, the invention of working electrical plants that generate what should be consistent power, transformed into holding sites (batteries?) and transported to the end client (usually my computer) creates a whole different source of read more…

Stagner Mayoral Race – Winner
In a party where the sound of laughter echoed through the room, new Mayor Elect Roger Stagner was recognized as the winner of an uncontested race. Along with a plethora of guests, the Lamar City Council showed up in high color, spotting local natives, wrestling with issues and chattering up the changes bound to come with a new rift of faces among the old. Not many changes in the overall scheme of city management, but different placement along the lines. The only new faces include Kirk Crespin and Keith Nidey. Both PJ Wilson and Roger Stagner were retained, Roger just happened to gain center stage. The question of the night was “Will this make a difference in the operation of the city?” Roger answered, “I don’t think there will be major changes, and yet, each meeting is a difference. New faces bring different perspectives of the old issues, and maybe new views.” Keith summed up the discussion with, “The big difference from being an interested citizen to being on the council is perspective. Once you’re sitting behind the bench, you have to make decisions, not just observe them.” Kirk Crespin mingled and acknowledged his confidence in taking the step into read more…

After the Full Moon – John Martin Reservoir
Life in southeastern Colorado has a few perks… Among them, John Martin Reservoir. Growing up, the dam ran the gauntlet from a source of fear, to a source of pleasure. I remember Dad teetering off the edge of the rock face on the pier reaching for his straw hat that had blown into the water as we watched the sailboat races followed by rushing through blinding torrents of rain to escape the flood. Life in the valley below the dam brought many emotional highs and lows over the years. Knowing that my uncles and several other relatives worked on this project in the 1930′s just makes the views of the dam and from the dam that much more special. When I found the photos, including the one above on Danielle Simone’s John Martin Reservoir Blog today, I had to share the photos, and the memories. I know many of us grew up boating, swimming and fishing the Dam. And, who could forget campfires around Hasty Lake, or the many summer events and school trips to the Dam. Anybody else ever watch fireworks from the Dam. Springfield, Eads, Las Animas, La Junta, Lamar and Holly are all visible from the read more…
