Make Some NEW Memories at the Town Square
Lamar, Colorado (my hometown) is having a “Make New Memories” night at the town square: Saturday night 7:30 PM – Main Street at the court house. Everybody come on out and lets remember how things used to be. Just a good old fashioned BS session to say howdy to everyone. Bring the memories and let’s see who shows up. Someone please take pictures and post them. I hope there’s a crowd shows up and shares comments. That’s Tomorrow Night – any Saturday Night – same time, same place. If you’re in town, this is something fun and exciting to do. See who comes out on Saturday Night! This subject came up among friends, discussing how there used to be fun things to do in Lamar, and how often we used to spend the evening stopping over and visiting friends, parked on Main Street chatting with people we hadn’t seen all year. If you’re looking for a fun thing to do Saturday night, swing by BJ’s Burger and Beverage for a Hamburger and Hot Fudge Marshmallow Shake (yep, it’s a heart attack looking for a victim, but you’ll die happy) and bring it back to the square to eat and visit. read more…
Wind Assaults Southeast Colorado
Russ Baldwin of the Prowers Journal reports, “A lot of tumbleweeds got a chance to change their location in southeast Colorado this past Saturday, with wind gusts approaching 60 mph for a portion of the afternoon.” Visit the Prowers Journal for more information about the 18 wheeler overturned west of Granada on Highway 50, due to strong winds. For a lifetime, Mrs. Munro taught at Lamar High School, bringing English to the masses who studied there. Her expertise in literature and language arts is renowned by alumni, often remembered for her strict requirements and classroom demands, but more often thought of as an inspiration by those who survived her course studies with better than average grades… Which included most of her students, because she went the extra distance required to make certain they not only passed, but excelled in her classes. One former student went a little bit further. She wrote about Mrs. Munro in her Column in The Flume – an excerpt below: She was the gold standard of English teachers and a force of nature in the classroom. We were spellbound by her readings of “Beowulf” in Old English and her step-by-step instructions for steaming a pudding inside a sheep’s stomach (previously separated from sheep, of course). Simultaneously, however, read more…
