St. Jude Children’s Hospital Walking Fundraiser

The students and staff at Washington Elementary School will be walking 1 mile together this Friday, October 7th! We want to raise awareness and money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a hospital dedicated to fighting pediatric cancer and other diseases in children.  This hospital, based in Memphis,Tennessee is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. The Lamar High School FBLA club will be walking for St. Jude on Sunday, October 9th. Fund raiser of the Prowers County-Lamar Volunteer Fire Department

October is fire prevention month and Wal~Mart, Frito-Lay, and Pepsi have teamed up to raise funds for the 2012 fireworks fund. $5.00 will get you a bratwurst, Frito-Lay chips, and a Pepsi with all proceeds going to provide an exciting firworks show next July. The Prowers County Lamar Fire Department will have their equipment on display and provide information on how you can prevent fires as we head into the upcoming holiday season. City Ordinances – REALLY?

This article isn’t about Lamar (at this point) but it is about City Ordinances and City Code Inspectors and how STUPID they can both be when codes and ordinances are written by the wrong people. Not everyone has the money to live in a high powered protected neighborhood. Some people have to live off their land, not just on the land. Hometown Promotions – Lamar, CO

Sometimes I come across something that is just too exciting NOT to share. One of my favorite artists in the area is Patsy Place Wollert Oxley, and I noticed recently that she has a blog online celebrating Wednesday Windows. Had to visit her blog and the first thing I saw was a photo of the 3rd Street Nest, a Bed and Breakfast in Lamar, owned by Jane Felter. If you’ve got anything on your schedule for September 17th, 2011, you need to change it to Visit the Lamar Fall Festival in Lamar, Colorado. Absolutely NOTHING tops the Fall Festival in Lamar when local vendors and cottage industries camp out along Main Street with tables of everything you can think of from books (Oris George will BE there) to needle point, solving all your gift giving questions for the fall.
